Anti-Inflamatory

Taking too much Ibuprophen/Asprin will kill you. Eating too much ginger will not. This article explains how common foods can be used as anti-inflammatory medicines.

I like quiet mornings like this. Just the occasional chirp and the lawn-mower downstairs.

Its peaceful.

The problem is not materialism as such. Rather, it is the underlying assumption that full satisfaction can arise from gratifying the senses alone. Unlike animals whose quest for happiness is restricted to survival and to the immediate gratification of sensory desires, we human beings have the capacity to experience happiness at a deeper level which, when achieved, can overwhelm unhappy experiences.
Eating

Kate Moss famously said, “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” She lied. I’ve eaten three pieces of chocolate cheese cake today and I don’t feel bad about it. I should, since I saw my mother make this and I know it’s pretty much a block of cream cheese. In fact, as I was eating my second piece I thought, “I wish I could justify this by saying something tragic has happened.” And then I caught myself, wondering:

Why is it OK to justify indulgences with our sadness, but not our happiness?

The truth is, eating is completely irrelevant to our sad situations. Eating a piece of cake doesn’t make your daddy love you more or your mom less annoying. The functioning idea here is that since indulgences are enjoyable the resulting happiness will cancel out your preexisting self pity. But really, our indulgence is wasted on our sorrow and not fully enjoyed. If we’re going to eat cake simply because we enjoy it, we shouldn’t have to justify it any more than we have to justify listening to a song we like or watching a show that makes us laugh.

In all cultures, regardless of social status or religious views, it is perfectly acceptable to be happy. If something makes you happy and it’s not hurting the people around you, don’t justify and enjoy.

Dream a little longer.

Dream a little longer.
